2、efinitiontodesigniterationandprototypedeliverables.ThisadvanceddesigncourseisoneoftheofferingsunderBuildingResearchCapacitytrainingprojectoftheWirelessRERC,wherestudentsareprovidedanin-depthunderstandinghowtodesignproductsconsideringuniversaldesignprinciples.Assuch,centraltothecla
3、sswasthetaskofdesigninguniversalinteractiveproductsforolderadults.StudentsvisitingWesleyWoodsThestudiousedvariedinstructionalmethodsincludingpresentations,lecturesandin-classdiscussions,in-classfeedback,readings,presentationsandprojectreviews.Butthesuccessoftheclasswastheabilityfo
4、rstudentstospendextendedperiodsoftimewiththeirintendedusers.StudentsvisitedtheWesleyWoodsTowersretirementcommunityonceaweektospendtimewiththeresidents.WesleyWoodsTowers,establishedin1987andcomponentofEmoryHealthcare,isaretirementhomecommunityinAtlantaspecializinginprovidingthefaci

6、tsactivitiessuchasplayingcards,listeningtomusic,tomentionafew.Throughoutthesemester,studentsappliedtheknowledgefromolderadultsintodesigningartifactstosupportdailyactivitiesofresidents.Studentssketchedideas,analyzedresearchresultsthroughaffinitydiagrams,anddevelopedmockupsofconcept
7、sandprototypes.StudentsworkingontheirprojectsWhiledesigninginteractiveproducts,studentsappliedthesevenprinciplesofUniversaldesignandemployedtheassessmenttooltoevaluatetheirdesigns:equitableuse,flexibilityinuse,simpleandintuitiveuse,perceptibleinformation,toleranceforerror,lowphysi
