2、yPage:Page3of3-3-Page3of3PurposeThisprogramisdesignedtoreducetheriskofwork-relatedheatillnesses.ScopeThisprocedureappliestoallworkbeingperformedinhotenvironments.Definitions"Acclimatization"meanstemporaryadaptationofthebodytoworkintheheatthatoccursgraduallywhenapersonisexposed

3、toit.Acclimatizationpeaksinmostpeoplewithinfourtofourteendaysofregularworkforatleasttwohoursperdayintheheat."HeatIllness"meansaseriousmedicalconditionresultingfromthebody'sinabilitytocopewithaparticularheatload,andincludesheatcramps,heatexhaustion,heatsyncopeandheatstroke."Pre

4、ventativerecoveryperiod"meansaperiodoftimetorecoverfromtheheatinordertopreventheatillness."Shade"meansblockageofdirectsunlight.Canopies,umbrellasandothertemporarystructuresordevicesmaybeusedtoprovideshade.Oneindicatorthatblockageissufficientiswhenobjectsdonotcastashadowinthear

5、eaofblockedsunlight.Shadeisnotadequatewhenheatintheareaofshadedefeatsthepurposeofshade,whichistoallowthebodytocool.Forexample,acarsittinginthesundoesnotprovideacceptableshadetoapersoninsideit,unlessthecarisrunningwithairconditioning.RequirementsAllmanagersandsupervisorsareresp

6、onsibleforimplementingandmaintainingtheHeatIllnessProgramintheirworkareas.ProvisionofWaterEmployeesshallhaveaccesstopotabledrinkingwater.Employeesshallhaveaccesstopotabledrinkingwater.Whereitisnotplumbedorotherwisecontinuouslysupplied,itshallbeprovidedinsufficientquantityatthe

7、beginningoftheworkshift.AccesstoShadeEmployeeswillbeprovidedwithaccesstoshade.Employeessufferingfromheatillnessorbelievingapreventativerecoveryperiodisneeded,shallbeprovidedaccesstoanareawithshadethatiseitheropentotheairorprovidedwithventilationorcooling.Suchaccesstoshadeshall
