2、sfordesigningantennawithhignperformance.MMscanbeappliedtotheantennainmanyforms.Ithasbroadprospectsontheapplicationinwirelesscommunication.InthispapertheapplicationoftheMMs-claddinginantennadesignationisresearched.severalantennasloadedwithMMs-claddinghavebeendesigned.T

3、hemaincontentsareasfollow:1.Firstly,basedonthetheoryofplasma,theelectromagneticcharacteristicoftheperiodicmetallic-rodsarraysisanalyzedandtheexpressofthenegativepermittivityisderived.Then,periodiccut-wire-gridMM-claddingandnon-periodiccut-wire-gridMM-claddingaredesign

4、edbasedonthetheoryoftheMMspatialmatchlayer.Themonopoleisputintothecentreofthecladdingtoimprovethegain(thegainscanrespectivelyreachupto5.5dBiand6.5dBi).Thelattertypeofcladdingcanfurtherbroadenthewideband(whichisbroadenby26%whencomparedtothemonopole).Besides,Thetwotypes

5、canrealizetheomni-directionalradiationandstabilitybeamdirectioninthewholeband.2.Basedonpropertyofnear-fieldresonantparasiticofnegativepermittivityMMs,threecylindricalMM-cladding:meanderline,“H”-shapedstructure,“I”-shapedstructure(ISS)aredesignedbydeformingtraditionalm

6、etal-wiresarrays.Amongthem,“H”-shapedstructurehasthewidestbandwidth2.6-7.1GHz,themonopolewiththeISShasthehighestgain6.2dBi.ThenovelantennaloadedwithmeandelineandISSarefabricated,agoodagreementisobtainedbetweenthesimulationsandthemeasurement.Keywords:Metamaterials(MMs)
