3、nd1989.Duringthisperiodheestablishedthatdepartmentasoneoftheprimarycentersoffiniteelementresearch.In1968hebecametheFounderEditoroftheInternationalJournalforNumericalMethodsinEngineeringwhichstillremainstodaythemajorjournalinthisfield.Therecipientof27honora
4、rydegreesandmanymedals,ProfessorZienkiewiczwasamemberoffiveacademies—anhonorhereceivedforhismanycontributionstothefundamentaldevelopmentsofthefiniteelementmethod.In1978,hebecameaFellowoftheRoyalSocietyandtheRoyalAcademyofEngineering.Thiswasfollowedbyhisele
5、ctionasaforeignmembertotheUSAcademyofEngineering(1981),thePolishAcademyofScience(1985),theChineseAcademyofSciences(1998),andtheNationalAcademyofScience,Italy(AccademiadeiLincei)(1999).Hepublishedthefirsteditionofthisbookin1967.ProfessorR.L.Taylorhasmoretha
6、n50years’experienceinthemodelingandsimulationofstructuresandsolidcontinuaincluding8yearsinindustry.HeisProfessoroftheGraduateSchoolandtheEmeritusT.Y.andMargaretLinProfessorofEngineeringattheUniversityofCaliforniaatBerkeleyandalsoCorporateFellowatDassaultSy
