2、temporaryaqueouspathways(“pores”),withtheelectricfieldplayingthedualroleofcausingporeformationandprovidingalocaldrivingforceforionicandmoleculartransportthroughthepores.IntroductionofDNAintocellsinvitroisnowthemostcommonapplication.Withimagination,however,manyotherusesseemlikely.Forexam
3、ple,invitroelectroporationhasbeenusedtointroduceintocellsenzymes,antibodies,andotherbiochemicalreagentsforintracellularassays;toloadlargercellspreferentiallywithmoleculesinthepresenceofmanysmallercells;tointroduceparticlesintocells,includingviruses;tokillcellspurposefullyunderotherwisem
4、ildconditions;andtoinsertmembranemacromoleculesintothecellmembraneitself.Onlyrecentlyhastheexplorationofinvivoelectroporationforusewithintacttissuebegun.Severalpossibleapplicationshavebeenidenti-fied,viz.combinedelectroporationandanticancerdrugsforimprovedsolidtumorchemotherapy,localize
