5、egiantpanda'shabitat.Theresearchteamdevelopedhabitatmodelsusinggeographicalandenvironmentalinformationgatheredbysatellitesoverlaidwithinformationonpandaoccurrence.Afteranalyzingsixmountainregionsinthethreeprovinceswherepandasareknowntolive,thescientistsde

6、velopedahabitatsuitabilityindex(索引)fortheentire48,328squaremilearea.Therangewidehabitatanalysismodelgivesthegovernmentandotheragenciesanewtoolastheydevelopconservationstrategiesnotonlyforpandasbutalsoformanyotherendangeredspecies.“TheChinesegovernmentplan

7、stoaddabout69,500squaremilesoflandtothecountry'snaturereservesystembetween2010and2020，”saidOuyangZhiyun,directoroftheLabofUrbanandRegionalEcologyattheChineseAcademyofSciencesinBeijing.“Soopportunitiesexisttocreatenewreserves,toexpandexistingreservesandtoc
