4、987to1999.Theaimofthiscourseistoprovideanextensivetreatmentofthetheoryoffeedbackcontroldesignforlinear,finite-dimensional,time-invariantstatespacesystemswithinputsandoutputs.Oneoftheimportantthemesofcontrolisthedesignofcontrollersthat,whileachievinganinternallystableclo
5、sedsystem,maketheinfluenceofcertainexogenousdisturbanceinputsongivento-be-controlledoutputvariablesassmallaspossible.In-deed,intheappropriatesensethisthemeiscoveredbytheclassicallinearquadraticregulatorproblemandthelinearquadraticGaussianproblem,aswellas,morere-cently,b
6、ytheH2andH∞controlproblems.MostoftheresearcheffortsonthelinearquadraticregulatorproblemandthelinearquadraticGaussianproblemtookplaceintheperiodupto1975,whereasinparticularH∞controlhasbeentheimportantissueinthemostrecentperiod,startingaround1985.In,roughly,theintermedia
