4、eofPLCprogramsisidentifiedasanimportantintermediatestepinthisprocess.ItisshownhowXMLandcorrespondingtechnologiescanbeusedfortheformalizationandvisualizationofanexistingPLCprogram.I.INTRODUCTIONProgrammableLogicControllers(PLCs)areaspecialtypeofcomputersthatare

5、usedinindustrialandsafetycriticalapplications.ThepurposeofaPLCistocontrolaparticularprocess,oracollectionofprocesses,byproducingelectricalcontrolsignalsinresponsetoelectricalprocess-relatedinputssignals.ThesystemscontrolledbyPLCsvarytremendously,withapplicatio

6、nsinmanufacturing,chemicalprocesscontrol,machining,transportation,powerdistribution,andmanyotherfields.Automationapplicationscanrangeincomplexityfromasimplepaneltooperatethelightsandmotorizedwindowshadesinaconferenceroomtocompletelyautomatedmanufacturinglines.
