2、ensivetraininginthepronunciationofindividualphonemesinEnglish,intherhythmicpatternsoftheEnglishlanguageandinthepatternsandfunctionsofEnglishintonation,sothatthestudentswillbeabletocommunicatemoreeffectivelywithgoodpronunciationandintonation.Tohavegoodpronunciationmeans
3、1)topronouncecorrectlyalltheindividualspeechsoundsinEnglish;2)topronouncecorrectlythespeechsoundsintheircombinationsinisolatedwordsaswellasinsentences;3)tospeakfluentlywithcorrectrhythm,includingthecorrectplacementofstressesandpausesandthetransitionofsoundsaccordingtot
4、hecontext;and4)tospeakwithappropriateintonationaccordingtothecontext.Beforeweattaingoodpronunciation,itisessentialthatweshouldperceivethedifferencesbetweenthesoundsinthenewlanguage.Thisiswhatthepresentcoursesetsouttodo:drillsoflisteninganddiscriminationcomebeforeallatt
5、emptsatperformance.AsmostofthestudentshavealreadygoneoversomepracticeinEnglishpronunciation,wewillconcentrateonsomeofthedifficultsounds.AndasweallknowthatEnglishrhythmisnewanddifficulttomostofus,wewillpayspecialattentiontothetrainingofthefeaturesthatarerequiredfortheap
6、propriaterhythm.Theuseofcorrectintonationalsoformsanimportantpartofthecourse.Suchaperceptualapproachrequiresfromthelearneronlytheminimumoftheoreticalknowledge.Forthisreason,thetheoreticalcommentaryinthiscourseisrestrictedtoessentials.Formoredetailedtheoreticalinformati
