3、ewesternsociolinguists’interest.Asearlyasinthe1960s,withthedevelopmentoffeministsocialmovementandthegrowthofsociolinguistics,therearemanyresearchesoninter-genderdiscourse.Buthowtoexplainspeechdifferencesbetweenmenandwomenremainsaquestionindisputeamongsociolinguists.The
4、articlereviewsthedefinitionofdiscourseandthedefinitionandhistoricalperspectiveofgenderdiscourse.Fivedifferencesinconversationsaredisplayed.Theyaretheusageof“directnessandindirectness”,“minimalresponses”,“questions”,“swearingandtaboolanguage,hedges,complimentsandpoliten
5、ess”and“amountoftalk”.Thepaperthenanalyzesthemaincausesofinter-genderdifferences,includingideology,socialization,interpretiveframesandsocialstatusandpower.Basedontheanalysisanddiscussionsabove,theauthorofferssomeadvicetoavoidthemiscommunication:paymoreattentionandrespe
6、cttotheobjectivefactors,gainshareknowledgeasmuchaspossibleandlearntobeopenandflexible.Infact,thestudyongenderdiscourseisstillverynew.MostoftheavailableanalysisisbasedonthepatternsofdiscoursewithinAmericansociety.Anditisveryimportanttonoticetheinter-genderdifferencesinw
