3、therseveninthedaysofancientGreece.Inthosedays,however,itwasRhea,theMotherofthegodsthatwasgivenhonor.Later,inthe1600's,inEnglandtherewasanannualobservancecalled“MotheringSunday”.ItwascelebratedduringJune,onthefourthSunday.OnMotheringSunday,theservants,whogenerallylivedwiththe
4、iremployers,wereencouragedtoreturnhomeandhonortheirmothers.Itwastraditionalforthemtobringaspecialcakealongtocelebratetheoccasion.IntheU.S.,in1907AnnaJarvisfromPhiladelphia,beganacampaigntoestablishanationalMother'sDay.Jarvispersuadedhermother'schurchinGrafton,WestVirginatoce
5、lebrateMother'sDayonthesecondanniversaryofhermother'sdeath,the2ndSundayofMay.ThenextyearMother'sDaywasalsocelebratedinPhiladelphia.Jarvisandothersbeganaletter-writingcampaigntoministers,businessmen,andpoliticiansintheirquesttoestablishanationalMother'sDay.Theyweresuccessful.
6、PresidentWoodrowWilson,in1914,madetheofficialannouncementproclaimingMother'sDayanationalobservancethatwastobeheldeachyearonthe2ndSundayofMay.ManyothercountriesoftheworldcelebratetheirownMother'sDayatdifferenttimesthroughouttheyear.Denmark,Finland,Italy,Turkey,Australia,andBe
