4、tenfortheLippincott’sMagazine.TheStrandMagazinestartedtopublishTheAdventuresofSherlockHolmes’fromJuly1891.Holmes’saddressatMrs.Hudson’shouse,221BBakerStreet,London,becamesoonthemostfamousLondonstreetinliterature.DuringtheSouthAfricanwar（1899－1902）Doyleservedforafewmonthsasseniorphysicianatafieldhosp
5、ital,andwroteTHEWARINSOUTHAFRICA,inwhichhedefendedEngland’spolicy.Doylewasknightedin1902andin1900and1906healsoranunsuccessfullyforParliament.Fourteenmonthsafterhislong-invalidedwifeLouisadied,ConanDoylemarriedin1907hissecondwife,JeanLeckie.Doylesupportedtheexistenceof“littlepeople”andspentmorethanam
