2、camethefirstagriculturalpioneerintheworldtogrowRickthathasahighoutput.ThisspecialstrainofRickmakesitpossibletoproduceone-thirdmoreofthecropinthesamefields.Nowmorethan60%ofthericeproducedinChinaeachyearisfromthishybridstrain. Bornintoapoorfarmer’sfamilyin1930,DrYuangraduatedfromSouthw
3、estAgriculturalCollegein1953.Sincethen,findingwaystogrowmorericehasbeenhislifegoal.Asayoungman,hesawthegreatneedforincresingthericeoutput.Atthattime,hungerwasadisturbingprobleminmanypartsofthecountryside.DrYuansearchedforawaytoincreasericeharvestswithoutexpandingtheareaofthefields.In
4、1950,Chinesefarmerscouldproduceonlyfiftymilliontonsofrice.Inarecentharvest,however,nearlytwohundredmilliontonsofricewasproduced.Theseincreasedharvestsmeanthat22%ofthwartworld’speoplearefedfromjust7%ofthefarmlandinChina.DrYuanisnowcirculatinghisknowledgeinIndia,Vietnamandmanyotherless
5、developedcountriestoincreasetheirriceharvests.Thankstohisresearch,farmersareproducingharveststwiceaslargeasbefore. DrYuanisquitesatisfiedwithhislife.However,hedoesn'tcareaboutbeingfamous.Hefeelsitgiveshimlessfreedomtodohisresearch.Hewouldratherkeeptimeforhishobbies.Heenjoyslisteningt
6、ovolinmusic,playingmah-jong,swimmingandreading.Spendingmoneyonhimselforleadingacomfortablelifealsomeansverylittletohim.Indeed,hebelievesthatapersonwithtomuchmoneyhasmoreratherthanfewertroubls.HethereforegivesmillionsofYuantoequipothersfortheirresearchinagriculture. Justdreamingforthi
