2、lledsuperhybridrice.In1974,hebecamethefirstagriculturalpioneerintheworldtogrowRickthathasahighoutput.ThisspecialstrainofRickmakesitpossibletoproduceone-thirdmoreofthecropinthesamefields.Nowmorethan60%ofthericeproducedinChinaeachyearisfromthishybridstrai
3、n. Bornintoapoorfarmer’sfamilyin1930,DrYuangraduatedfromSouthwestAgriculturalCollegein1953.Sincethen,findingwaystogrowmorericehasbeenhislifegoal.Asayoungman,hesawthegreatneedforincresingthericeoutput.Atthattime,hungerwasadisturbingprobleminmanypartsofth
4、ecountryside.DrYuansearchedforawaytoincreasericeharvestswithoutexpandingtheareaofthefields.In1950,Chinesefarmerscouldproduceonlyfiftymilliontonsofrice.Inarecentharvest,however,nearlytwohundredmilliontonsofricewasproduced.Theseincreasedharvestsmeanthat22
5、%ofthwartworld’speoplearefedfromjust7%ofthefarmlandinChina.DrYuanisnowcirculatinghisknowledgeinIndia,Vietnamandmanyotherlessdevelopedcountriestoincreasetheirriceharvests.Thankstohisresearch,farmersareproducingharveststwiceaslargeasbefore. DrYuanisquites
6、atisfiedwithhislife.However,hedoesn'tcareaboutbeingfamous.Hefeelsitgiveshimlessfreedomtodohisresearch.Hewouldratherkeeptimeforhishobbies.Heenjoyslisteningtovolinmusic,playingmah-jong,swimmingandreading.Spendingmoneyonhimselforleadingacomfortablelifealso
7、meansverylittletohim.Indeed,hebelievesthatapersonwithtomuchmoneyhasmoreratherthanfewertroubls.HethereforegivesmillionsofYuantoequipothersfortheirresearchinagriculture. Justdreamingforthings,however,costsnothing.LongagoDrYuanhadadreamaboutriceplantsastal
