3、yusingecccutricicytoreducethesearchspace,andfineretrievalwillfollowbyusingallthreesetsoffeaturesinthereducedsearchspaceinthesecondstage.DifferentfromeccentricityandACH,theCCDcurveisneitherscaling-invariantnorrotation-invariant.Therefore,normalisation
4、isrequiredfortheCCDcurvetoachievescalinginvariance,andstartingpointlocationisrequiredtoachieverotationinvariancewiththesimilaritymeasureofCCDcurves.Athinning-basedmethodisproposedtolocatestartingpointsofleafimagecontours,sothattheapproachusedismoreco
5、mputationallyefficient.Actually,themethodcanbenefitothershaperepresentationsthataresensitivetostartingpointsbyreducingthematchingtimeinimagerecognitionandretrieval.Experimentalresultson1400leafimagesfrom140plantsshowthattheproposedapproachcanachievea
6、betterretrievalperformancethanboththecurvaturescalespace(CSS)methodandthemodifiedFourierdescriptor(MFD)method.Inaddition,thetwostageapproachcanachieveaperformancecomparabletoanexhaustivesearch,butwithamuchreducedcomputationalcomplexity.1IntroductionP
