2、rsignedJimmieRodgersandtheCarterFamilytorecordingcontractsforVictorRecords.Thesetworecordingactssetthetoneforthosetofollow-RodgerswithhisuniquesingingstyleandtheCarterswiththeirextensiverecordingsofold-timemusic.Knownasthe"FatherofCountryMusic,"JamesCharlesRod
3、gerswasborninMeridian,MississippionSeptember8,1897.HeneverappearedonanymajorradioshoworevenplayedtheGrandOleOpryduringhislifetime.Buthe,FredRose,andHankWilliamswerethefirstpersonstobeelectedtotheCountryMusicHallofFamein1961,whichisindicativeofhisimportanceinth
4、ehistoryofCountryMusic.TheGrandOleOpryPerhapsnootherinstitutionismoresynonymouswithcountrymusicthanWSMRadio'sGrandOleOpryinNashville,Tennessee.Since1925,ithasfeaturedcountrymusicactsonit'sstageforliveSaturdaynightbroadcasts.Thisprogramhasintroducedthenationtom
5、ost,ifnotall,ofthegreatsofcountrymusic.Tothisday,membershipontheOpryremainsoneofaCountryMusicartist'sgreatestambitions.TheOprybeganasashowwithprimarilypart-timeartistswhousedtheshowtopromotetheirliveappearancesthroughouttheSouthandMidwest,butwiththehelpofRoyAc
6、uff,theprofessionalismofcountrymusicbecameestablishedattheOpry.TheKingofCountryMusiccouldwellhavebecomeanotherLouGehrigorBabeRuth.MakinghisfirstappearanceontheGrandOleOpryin1938,Acuffsoonbecamearegularontheshow,changingthenameofthebandoncemoretotheSmokyMountai
7、nBoys.Hewonmanyfriendswithhissincere,mountain-boyvocalstyleandhisdobro-flavouredbandsound,andeventuallybecameaspopularasUncleDaveMacon,whowastheOpry'smainattractionatthetime.Acuff'stremendouscontributiontocountrymusicwasrecognizedinNovember1962,whenhebecamethe
8、firstlivingmusiciantobehonoredasamemberoftheCountryMusicHallofFame.HeguestedontheNittyGrittyDirtBand'striplealbumset"WillTheCircleBeUnbroken?"in1972,lendingcredencetocontemporaryan
