3、s,orelsetheywillbelookeddownupon.ThisreflectsoneofthecontrastsofthevaluejudgementbetweenweChineseandAmericanpeople.Chinesecultureisfamousformodestyandcourtesy.Thisistheuniversally-acknowledgedfinetraditionwithwhichthesociety,theschoolsandthefamilieseducatethenewgenerations
4、.WeChinesehavebeenusedtomeasuringothers’moralbehavioraswellastheiroutlookonlifeandworldbythisstandard,whichis,inotherterms,collectivism.Whilethewesternersadvocateself-enterprisingspiritalot,andtheyalwaysmeasureone’sindividualvaluebyhissuccess.Thisiswhatwecallasindividualis
5、m.Thesourceofthiscontrastofthevaluejudgementcanbetracedinthetwocountries’history.Chinaisacountrywithahistoryofabout5,000year,withitscultureadistantoriginandalongdevelopment.WiththetheoryofConfucianisteducationasthecoretraditionalculture,Chinesehaveconsistentlyheldstrongsen
6、seofsocialstratumandcodesofethics.Peoplewiththelowerrankshouldrespectandevenobeythosewithhigherrank,andtheyoungershouldactthesametotheolder.Peopleshouldbemodestandcourteous,andactaccordingtotheinterestsofthecollective.WhataboutAmerican?Americaisacountrywithitshistoryofjust
7、morethan200year,andmostofthecitizensareimmigrantsfromEurope.TheybroughtthereProtestantismoftheChristianreligion,that’stheWASPculture(WhiteAnglo7SaxonProtestant),whichreflectsthenation’sreligioncharacter.TheybelievethatalltheworldincludingthefoodisgivenbyGod，sooneshouldrepa
