1、TheTempleofHeavenTheTempleofHeavenisaworthwhilevisitingplaceinBeijing.ItismuchbiggerthantheImperialPalace(theForbiddenCity)andsmallerthantheSummerPalacewithanareaofabout2700000squaremeters.Thetemplewasbuiltin1420A.D.intheMingDynastytooffersacrificetoHeaven.AsChineseemperorscalledth

2、emselves“theSonofHeaven”,theydarednottobuildtheirowndwelling“ForbiddenCity”biggerthanthedwellingforHeaven.TheTempleofHeavenisenclosedwithalongwall.Thenorthernpartwithinthewallissemicircularsymbolizingtheheavensandthesouthernpartissquaresymbolizingtheearth.Thenorthernpartishighertha

3、nthesouthernpart.ThisdesignshowsthattheheavenishighandtheearthislowandreflectsanancientChinesethoughtof“Theheavenisroundandtheearthissquare”.TheTempleofHeavenisdividedbytwoenclosedwallsintoinnerpartandouterpart.Themainbuildingsofthetemplelieatthesouthandnorthendsofthemiddleaxisline

4、oftheinnerpart.ThemostmagnificentbuildingsfromsouthtonortharetheCircularTerrace,theImperialHeavenlyVaultandtheHallofPrayerforGoodHarvests.Also,therearesomeadditionalbuildingslikeThreeEchoStonesandEchoWall.CircularTerracehasthreelayeredterraceswithwhitemarble.DuringtheMingandQingDyn

5、asties(1368A.D.~1911A.D.),theemperorswouldoffersacrificestoHeavenonthedayoftheWinterSolsticeeveryyear.ThisceremonywastothankHeavenandhopeeverythingwouldbegoodinthefuture.HallofPrayerforGoodHarvestsisabigpalacewithroundroofandthreelayersofeaves,theroofiscoveredwithblack,yellowandgre

6、encoloredglazerepresentingtheheavens,theearthandeverythingonearth.AnotherimportantbuildingintheTempleofHeavenisImperialHeavenlyVault.Ifyoulookatitfromfaraway,youwillfindthatthevaultislikeablueumbrella.ThestructureofitislikethatofHallofPrayerforGoodHarvests,butsmallerinsize.Thevault
