1、TheTempleofHeavenTheTempleofHeavenisaworthwhilevisitingplaceinBeijing.ItismuchbiggerthantheImperialPalace(theForbiddenCity)andsmallerthantheSummerPalacewithanareaofabout2700000squaremeters.Thetemplewasbuiltin1420A.D.intheMingDynastytooffersacrificetoHeaven.AsChineseemperorscalledthemselves“theSono

2、fHeaven”,theydarednottobuildtheirowndwelling“ForbiddenCity”biggerthanthedwellingforHeaven.TheTempleofHeavenisenclosedwithalongwall.Thenorthernpartwithinthewallissemicircularsymbolizingtheheavensandthesouthernpartissquaresymbolizingtheearth.Thenorthernpartishigherthanthesouthernpart.Thisdesignshows

3、thattheheavenishighandtheearthislowandreflectsanancientChinesethoughtof“Theheavenisroundandtheearthissquare”.TheTempleofHeavenisdividedbytwoenclosedwallsintoinnerpartandouterpart.Themainbuildingsofthetemplelieatthesouthandnorthendsofthemiddleaxislineoftheinnerpart.Themostmagnificentbuildingsfromso

4、uthtonortharetheCircularTerrace,theImperialHeavenlyVaultandtheHallofPrayerforGoodHarvests.Also,therearesomeadditionalbuildingslikeThreeEchoStonesandEchoWall.CircularTerracehasthreelayeredterraceswithwhitemarble.DuringtheMingandQingDynasties(1368A.D.~1911A.D.),theemperorswouldoffersacrificestoHeave

5、nonthedayoftheWinterSolsticeeveryyear.ThisceremonywastothankHeavenandhopeeverythingwouldbegoodinthefuture.HallofPrayerforGoodHarvestsisabigpalacewithroundroofandthreelayersofeaves,theroofiscoveredwithblack,yellowandgreencoloredglazerepresentingtheheavens,theearthandeverythingonearth.Anotherimporta

6、ntbuildingintheTempleofHeavenisImperialHeavenlyVault.Ifyoulookatitfromfaraway,youwillfindthatthevaultislikeablueumbrella.ThestructureofitislikethatofHallofPrayerforGoodHarvests,butsmallerinsize.Thevaultwasmadeofbricksandtimber,withwhitemarblerailingssurrounded.ThreeEchoStonesisoutsideofthegateofIm
