2、liabilityandvalidityofthescoresproducedusingthistest,andthefirstevidenceforacorrelationbetweenERAmeasuredbyastandardizedtestandpersonality.UtilizingMatsumotoandEkman’s(1988)JapaneseandCaucasianFacialExpressionsofEmotion(JACFEE)andNeutralFaces(JACNeuF),wecallthismeasur
3、etheJapaneseandCaucasianBriefAffectRecognitionTest(JACBART).TheJACBARTimprovesonpreviousmeasuresofERAby(1)usingexpressionsthathavesubstantialvalidityandreliabilitydataassociatedwiththem,(2)includingposersoftwovisiblydifferentraces(3)balancedacrosssevenuniversalemotion
4、s(4)withequaldistributionofposerraceandsexacrossemotions(5)inaformatthateliminatesafterimagesassociatedwithfastexposures.ScoresderivedusingtheJACBARTarereliable,andthreestudiesdemonstratedacorrelationbetweenERAandthepersonalityconstructsofOpennessandConscientiousness,
5、whileonestudyreportsacorrelationwithExtraversionandNeuroticism.Researchonjudgmentsofemotionfromfacialexpressionshasalongandimportanthistoryinpsychology,andhascontributedgreatlytotheliteratureconcerningtheuniversalityofemotion,andtoknowledgeconcerningdifferencesbetween
6、gender,ethnicity,culture,andpsychiatricstatus.Studiesexaminingtherelationshipbetweenindividualdifferencesinjudgmentsofemotion(hereonreferredtoasEmotionRecognitionAbility—ERA)andpersonalityalsohaveaconsiderablehistory,butischeckeredwithinconsistentfindings.Ononehand,ER
