3、ng1.IntroductionAlongwiththedevelopmentofscienceandtechnology,thegradualuniversalityofthecomputer,themultimediaisplayingamoreandmoreimportantroleinassistingEnglishteaching.Especiallyinuniversities,comparedtoprimaryschoolsorsecondaryschools,theirrelativelygoodeconomymakeitpossibletousemultimediawide
4、lyinEnglishteaching.Inaddition,theMinistryofEducationhighlightsthateachuniversityandcollegeshouldmakegooduseofmultimediaandnetworktechnique,adoptnewteachingmodetoimprovethetraditionalteachingmodewhichcentersonteachers’teaching.Consequently,itpromotescollegesanduniversitiestousethemultimediaextensiv
5、ely.Undoubtedly,theadvantagesofmultimediaareevident,however,italsohasitsdisadvantageswhichshouldnotbeignored,otherwiseitcanaffectEnglishteachingqualityincollegesanduniversities.TheadvantagesofmultimediainassistingcollegeEnglishcanbegeneralizedasfollows:itcanbebeneficialtostudents’listening,speaking
6、,comprehendingandmemorizing;enhancestudents’interestsoflearningEnglish;improveteachers’teachingefficiency.Thedisadvantagesofitincludebeingdisadvantageoustocommunicatingbetweenteachersandstudents,takingnotesforstudents;beingdisadvantageoustostudents’thinkinganddevelopingstudents’imagination;itcanals
