4、educatedatCambridge.Theevasivewriting,transcribedintinyscriptonsmallpiecesofpaper,continuesintoheradulthoodandisaremarkablekeytothedevelopmentofthegiftinEmily.Thoughsheproducesonlyonenovelandafewpoemsinhershortlife,sheisrankedamongthegiantsofEnglishlit

5、erature.Ashermasterpiece,WutheringHeights(1847)tellsthereaderastoryofagypsyboynamedHeathcliff.HeispickedupbyMr.Earnshawandbroughtuptogetherwithhischildren.HeathcliffandthedaughterofthefamilyMissCatherinehavelovedeachothersincetheirchildhood,butthelovei

6、scrushedbyCatherine’sbrother,Hindley.UnabletobearHindley’sinsult,Heathcliffjoinsthearmy.Threeyearslaterhebecomesarichman.Later,Heathcliffbecomesthemasterofthefamilyandtakesrevengeuponthenextgeneration.HetreatsHindley’ssonHaretonverycruellyandcompelsCat
