3、WorldWarI,HemingwayvolunteeredtoserveasanambulancedriverwiththeAmericanRedCross.Shortlyafterreachingthefrontlines,hewaswoundedinthelegsandtransferredtoahospitalinMilanwherehemetanurse.In1929,HemingwaydrewuponhisWorldWarIexperiencesforhissecondnovel,AFarewelltoArms.Itstragiclovestorywasagain
4、anenormousartisticandcommercialsuccessafterTheSunAlsoRises(1926).HemingwayalsowitnessedandfelttheSpanishCivilWarandWorldWarIIforhimself.Alloftheseexperiencesprovidedhimwithcontinuoussourceofwriting.HemingwaycommittedsuicideonJuly2,1961,byplacingthebarrelofatwelve26–gaugeshotguninhismouthand
