2、ichhavelexicalandsyntaxfunctions.However,ChineseandEnglishinterjectionshavemanydifferenceseventhoughtheyhavealotincommon.Bycomparisonwecanknowmoreaboutinterjectionsinthesetwolanguagesandtheusagesbetweenthem. 2TheDefinitionsofInterjectionsinChineseandEng
3、lish TherearemainlytwokindsofideastothedefinitionsofinterjectionsinChinesestudy.Oneisdefinedfromsemantics.MaJianzhong,aChineselinguist,said:“wordswhichareusedtoexpressfeelingsofone’smindsarecalledasinterjections.”Theotherisdefinedfromitssyntaxcharacteri
4、stics.WangLi(1955)said:“theinterjectionsarenotpartsofsentences’structure.Theycanbeusedtoexpressasoundofexclamation,suchasanger,surprise,sadnessandsoon.YuanYuliu(1998)evendescribedinterjectionsasfollows:“Interjectionscannotbeassembledwithotherwords,buton
5、lyaseparatecomponent”.Hepointedoutthatinterjectionshadnosyntaxrelationwithotherwords.Itwasoftenputinthebeginning,sometimesinthemiddle,ofasentence.”Besides,thereisanotherviewpointsayingthatinterjectionsbelongtootherpartsofspeech.However,somelinguiststhin
6、kthattheinterjectionisapartofmodalwords.LvShuxiang(1956)thoughtinterjectionswereindependentmodalwords.Othersregardthemasapartofonomatopoeia.RenXunliang(1981)thoughtonomatopoeiacouldbedividedintotwokinds:onewasinterjectionsutteredbyhumanbeings;theotherwa
7、snaturalobjects,i.e.soundsofthings.InEnglishgrammarresearch,therearealsotwoviewstothedefinition.Oneisdefinedfromitsnaturalmeanings.Curme(1935)saidthattheinterjectionwasakindofexclamation,expressingafeelingofsadness,happiness,surpriseoranger.Kittredge(19
8、31)alsotookthesameview.Theotherviewdefinesinterjectionfromitsstructurecharacteristics.Bloomfield(1933)consideredinterjectionsasasmallsentence.Hethoughtthatinterjectionwasaformthatwasneverinastructureexceptparatacticones,thatistos
