2、nparticularaccountingpracticesinthetwenty-firstcentury.Thisstudyexaminesthedevelopmentofenterpriseresourceplanning(ERP)systemsasameansofillustratinghowchangesininformationtechnologyallowsallsystemsinacompanytobelinkedtomanageoperationsholistically. Thestudyinvestigatesthec
3、hangeinaccountingsystemsusingasampleofAustraliancompanieswithemphasisontheadoptionofERPsystemsincludingthepotentialimpactofERPoncapitalbudgetingprocesses.TheresultsshowthatERPsystemsarechangingmanagementaccountingpractices,althoughatthisstage,theimpactoncapitalbudgetingtechn

5、nDuringthepastdecadeanincreasingnumberofcompanieshavebeenimpactedbyinformationtechnologyintermsofcomputerizedtransactionprocessingandelectronictelecommunicationssuchasthatdonewiththeInternet,intranet,andextranet.Forcompetitivereasons,companieshavehadtochangefrommanualandthen
6、mainframesystemstowhathasbeencalledenterpriseresourceplanning(ERP)systems.AnERPsystemhasacommondatabaseordatawarehousethatlinkstogetherallsystemsinallpartsofacompanyincluding,forexample,capitalbudgetingwithfinancial,control,manufacturing,sales,fixedassets,inventory,humanreso
7、urcesmodules,etc.AnERPsystem,bylinkingallsystemsthroughadatawarehouse,allowsacompanytomanageitsoperationsholistically. AsecondimpactofERPsystemshasbeenageneralshifttomanageattheactivitylevelratherthanatthemoreabstractleveloffinancialtransactions.Thismeansthatmanagementaccou
