2、insituationsthatdon’tchange,it’sunlikelytoholdtrueinachangingsituation.Intoday’srapidchangingglobalenvironment,oldmethodsoftendon’twork,andstubbornlyusingthemcanleadtomajorproblems. Mostpeopleseemtoagreewithconventionalwisdombecauseitgivesoneafalsesenseofsecurity.Ifeve
3、ryoneelsebelievesit,thenitmustbetrue.Individualswhouseconventionalwisdomarecertainthattheyareright,andbeingrightisgood.Theywanttocontinueusingoldideasratherthantakeriskswithchangesthatmightnotwork.In1977,KenOlsen,co-founderandCEOofDigitalEquipmentCorporation(DEC),stated
4、“Thereisnoreasonforanyindividualtohaveacomputerinhishome.”Despitebeingadominantleaderi nthecomputerindustry,DECnolongerexists. Peopleseemtoforgetthatsinceinnovationisachange,therecanbenoinnovationwithoutchange.Unfortunately,conventionalwisdompreventsleaders,follower
5、sandcompaniesfromchangingandthereforeinnovating.Ifcompaniesdon’tinnovate,buttheircompetitorsdo,thefutureislikelytobeproblematic.Breakingfromconventionalwisdomhasledtomanyofthemostinnovativecompaniesandproductsinhistoryacrossmanyindustries,soithasapowerfuleffectonbusines
6、ssuccess. TedTurner(founderofCNN)knewlittle,ifanything,aboutthenewsbusiness,butheknewitwasinconvenienttowatchnewsonlyatthedinnerhour,aswascommonbeforeCNN.Turner’ssolutionwastocreateacablechanneldedicatedtonews24hoursaday.Thenewsestablishmentreflectedconventionalwisdoma
