5、ists.Twolong-nosedechidnas—primitiveegg-layingmammals—letthevisitorspickthemupandtakethembacktocamptostudythem.Anechidnalookslikeahedgehogandisalsocalledaspinyanteater.Bexlerthinkstheanimalsweren’tscaredbecausetheyhadneverseenhumansbefore.“InalmostallpartsofNewGuinea,animals

6、arehuntedforfood,andbecauseofthis,theyareverycautiousofpeople,”heexplains.“Thisareagivesscientistsaplacewheretheycangotostudythebehavioursofanimalsthathavenotyetlearnedtobeafraidofpeople.”ScientistsbelievetheareaisprobablythelargestuntouchedforestinAsia.LocalpeoplecalledKwer
