3、fstateautomatatostudytheeffectsoffailureandverifysystemsafetyproperties.Inthispaper,wediscussthesetwoapproachestofailureanalysis.WethenfocusonHierarchicallyPerformedHazardOrigin&PropagationStudies(HiP-HOPS)-oneofthemoreadvancedcompositionalapproaches-anddiscussitscapabilitiesfor

4、automaticsynthesisoffaulttrees,combinatorialFailureModesandEffectsAnalyses,andreliabilityversuscostoptimisationofsystemsviaapplicationofautomaticmodeltransformations.WesummarisethesecontributionsanddemonstratetheapplicationofIliP-IIOPSonasimplifiedfueloilsystemforashipengine.Inl

5、ightofthisexample,wediscussstrengthsandlimitationsofthemethodinrelationtootherstate-of-the-arttechniques.Inparticular,becauseHiP-HOPSisdeductiveinnature,relatingsystemfailuresbacktotheircauses,itislesspronetocombinatorialexplosionandcanmorereadilybeiterated.Forthisreason,itenabl
