3、edtolearnEuclideangeometryatschoolmayremember,oneoftheconsequencesoftheseaxiomsis,thattheanglesofatriangle,adduptoahundredand80degrees.However,inthelastcentury,peoplebegantorealizethatotherformsofgeometrywerepossible,inwhichtheanglesofatriangle,neednotadduptoahundre
4、dand80degrees.Consider,forexample,thesurfaceoftheEarth.ThenearestthingtoastraightlineonthesurfaceoftheEarth,iswhatiscalled,agreatcircle.Thesearetheshortestpathsbetweentwopoints,sotheyaretherootsthatairlinesuse.ConsidernowthetriangleonthesurfaceoftheEarth,madeupofthe
