2、Au-DLC)matrixweredepositedonglassandSi(100)substratesbyusingcapacitativelycoupledplasma(CCP)chemicalvapourdepositiontechnique(CVD).Particlesizeandmetalvolumefractionvariedbetween2.7-3.5nmand0.04-0.7,respectivelywiththeamountofargoninthemethane+argongasmixtureintheplasma.B

3、ondingenvironmentinthesefilmswereobtainedfromXPS,RamanandFTIRstudies.MicrostructuralstudieswerecarriedoutbySEM,XRDandTEMstudies.Blue-shiftofthesurfaceplasmonresonancepeak(located~540-561nm)intheopticalabsorbancespectraofthefilmscouldbeassociatedwiththereductionofthepartic

4、lesizewhileredshiftwasassociatedwiththeincreaseinvolumefractionofmetalparticles.Theexperimentalresultshavebeendiscussedinlightofthecore-shellmodel.1.INTRODUCTIONNanoparticulategoldfilmsencapsuledindifferentmatrixhasbeenreportedbyanumberofgroups[1-10]duetotheirtechnologica

5、limportanceinmanyfields.Size-dependentelectrical,opticalandcatalyticproperties,biologicalassays,andsurface-enhancedRamanscattering(SERS)havebeenthesubjectofstudiesinrecentpast[11,12].Severalresearchers[5-7,9,10,13,14]havereportedtheirstudiesonopticalpropertiesofgoldorsilv

6、ernanoparticlesembeddedindielectricmatrixbyusingavarietyoftechniques.ThechoiceofthedielectricmatrixwaslimitedmainlytoSiO2,ZnO,TiO2,Al2O3andPMMA[13-17].Themainhurdletothewidespreadapplicationofmetalnanoparticlesistheiragglomerationduetohighsurfaceenergy[18,19].Severaltechn

7、iqueshavebeenproposedforthedepositionofmetalnanoparticlescontainingDLCfilms,whichincludeelectrochemical[17,20],sputterdeposition[21,22],plasma-enhancedchemicalvapordeposition[23],etc.Capacitativelycoupledplasmachemicalvapourdeposition(CCP-CVD)techniquebeingsimple,scalable
