2、pidlydetoxifiedbyamineoxidases,whereaspersonswithlowamineoxidaseactivityareatriskofhistaminetoxicity.Diamineoxidase(DAO)isthemainenzymeforthemetabolismofingestedhistamine.IthasbeenproposedthatDAO,whenfunctioningasasecretoryprotein,mayberesponsibleforscavengingextracellularhistaminea
3、ftermediatorrelease.Conversely,histamineN-methyltransferase,theotherimportantenzymeinactivatinghistamine,isacytosolicproteinthatcanconverthistamineonlyintheintracellularspaceofcells.AnimpairedhistaminedegradationbasedonreducedDAOactivityandtheresultinghistamineexcessmaycausenumerous
4、symptomsmimickinganallergicreaction.Theingestionofhistamine-richfoodorofalcoholordrugsthatreleasehistamineorblockDAOmayprovokediarrhea,headache,rhinoconjunctivalsymptoms,asthma,hypotension,arrhythmia,urticaria,pruritus,flushing,andotherconditionsinpatientswithhistamineintolerance.Sy
5、mptomscanbereducedbyahistamine-freedietorbeeliminatedbyantihistamines.However,becauseofthemultifacetednatureofthesymptoms,theexistenceofhistamineintolerancehasbeenunderestimated,andfurtherstudiesbasedondouble-blind,placebo-controlledprovocationsareneeded.Inpatientsinwhomtheabovement
6、ionedsymptomsaretriggeredbythecorrespondingsubstancesandwhohaveanegativediagnosisofallergyorinternaldisorders,histamineintoleranceshouldbeconsideredasanunderlyingpathomechanism.¡¾¹Ø¼ü´Ê¡¿histamineintolerancehistaminediamineoxidasefoodintoleranceallergyINTRODUCTIONHistamineintoleranc
