2、rytorecommenditemssimilartothoseagivenuserhaslikedinthepast.Indeed,thebasicprocessperformedbyacontent-basedrecom-menderconsistsinmatchinguptheattributesofauserprofileinwhichpreferencesandinterestsarestored,withtheattributesofacontentobject(item),inordertorecommendto
3、theusernewinterestingitems.Thischapterprovidesanoverviewofcontent-basedrecommendersystems,withtheaimofimposingadegreeoforderonthediversityofthedifferentaspectsinvolvedintheirdesignandimplementation.Thefirstpartofthechapterpresentsthebasicconceptsandterminologyofcont
4、ent-basedrecommendersystems,ahighlevelarchitecture,andtheirmainadvantagesanddrawbacks.Thesecondpartofthechapterprovidesareviewofthestateoftheartofsystemsadoptedinseveralapplicationdomains,bythoroughlydescrib-ingbothclassicalandadvancedtechniquesforrepresentingitems
5、anduserprofiles.Themostwidelyadoptedtechniquesforlearninguserprofilesarealsopresented.Thelastpartofthechapterdiscussestrendsandfutureresearchwhichmightleadtowardsthenextgenerationofsystems,bydescribingtheroleofUserGeneratedContentasawayfortakingintoaccountevolvingvoc
