2、tI.Q.wasnottheonlydifferencebetweenmybestandmyworststudents,someofmystrongestperformersdidnothavestratosphericI.Q.Scores,someofmysmartestkidsweren’tdoingsowell.Andthatgotmethinking,thekindsofthingsyouneedtolearninseventhgrademath,sure,they’rehard:ratios,decimals,theareaofaparallelogram,butth

6、allengingsettings,andineverystudymyquestionwaswhoissuccessfulhereandwhy.MyresearchteamandIwenttoWestPointMilitaryAcademy,wetrytopredictwhichcadetswouldstayinmilitarytrainingandwhichwoulddropout.WewenttotheNationalSpellingBee,andtriedtopredictwhichchildrenwouldadvancefarthestincompetition.Wes
7、tudiedrookieteachersinreallytoughneighborhoods,askingwhichteachersarestillgoingtobehereinteachingbytheendoftheschoolyear.Andofthose,whowillbethemosteffectiveatimprovinglearningoutcomesfortheirstudents.Wepartneredwithprivatecompanies,askingwhichofth
