3、paperreportstheresultsofaresearchprojectcomparingtheeffectofsurfacecrackwidthanddegreeofcorrosiononthebondstrengthofconfinedandunconfineddeformed12and16 mmmildsteelreinforcingbars.ThecorrosionwasinducedbychloridecontaminationoftheconcreteandanappliedDCcurrent.Theprincipalparametersinvest
4、igatedwereconfinementofthereinforcement,thecoverdepth,bardiameter,degreeofcorrosionandthesurfacecrackwidth.Theresultsindicatedthatpotentialrelationshipbetweenthecrackwidthandthebondstrength.Theresultsalsoshowedanincreaseinbondstrengthatthepointwhereinitialsurfacecrackingwasobservedforbar

6、ncorrodedstructuresthebondbetweenthesteelreinforcementandtheconcreteensuresthatreinforcedconcreteactsinacompositemanner.However,whencorrosionofthesteeloccursthiscompositeperformanceisadverselyaffected.Thisisduetotheformationofcorrosionproductsonthesteelsurface,whichaffectthebondbetweenth
7、esteelandtheconcrete.Thedeteriorationofreinforcedconcreteischaracterizedbyageneralorlocalizedlossofsectiononthereinforcingbarsandtheformationofexpansivecorrosionproducts.Thisdeteriorationcanaffectstructuresinanumberofways;theproductionofexpansiveproductscreatestensilestre
