3、nofboththesystemservicesandapplicationcomponents.Keywords:j2ee;component;Distributed;DynamicDeployment;1IntroductionInrecentyears,wehaveseenasignificantgrowthincomponent-basedenterpriseapplicationdevelopment.TheseapplicationsaretypicallydeployedoncompanyIntranetsorontheInternetandarecharac
4、terizedbyhightransactionvolume,largenumbersofusersandwideareaaccess.Traditionallytheyaredeployedinacentrallocation,usingserverclusteringwithloadbalancing(horizontalpartitioning)tosustainuserload.However,horizontalpartitioninghasbeenshownveryefficientonlyinreducingapplication-relatedoverhea
5、dsofuser-perceivedresponsetimes,withouthavingmucheffectonnetwork-inducedlatencies.Verticalpartitioning(e.g.,runningwebtierandbusinesstierinseparateVMs)hasbeenusedforfaultisolationandloadbalancingbutitissometimesimpracticalduetosignificantrun-timeoverheads(evenifonewouldkeepthetiersonafastl
6、ocal-areanetwork)relatedtoheavyuseofremoteinvocations.Recentwork[14]inthecontextofJ2EEcomponentbasedapplicationshasshownviabilityofverticalpartitioninginwide-areanetworkswithout19incurringtheaforementionedoverheads.Thekeyconclusionsfromthatstudycanbesummarizedasfollows:•Usingproperlydesign
7、edapplications,verticaldistributionacrosswide-areanetworksimprovesuser-perceivedlatencies.•Wide-areaverticallayeringrequiresreplicationofapplicationcomponentsandmaintainingconsistencybetweenreplicas.•Additionalreplicasmaybedeployeddynamicallytohandlenewrequest
