2、,workingclasspeoplefirst.Wearefacingamomentofgreatchangeasanation.AsweleavetheEuropeanUnion,wemustdefineanambitiousnewroleforourselvesintheworld.Thatinvolvesaskingourselveswhatkindofcountrywewanttobe:aconfident,globaltradingnationthatcontinuestoplayitsfullpartonthe
3、worldstage.Butatthesametime,Ibelievewehaveapreciousopportunitytostepbackandasksomesearchingquestionsaboutwhatkindofcountrywewanttobehereathometoo.Infact,it'snotjustanopportunity,butaduty.Becauseonethingisclear.WhentheBritishpeoplevotedinthereferendum,theydidnotjust
4、choosetoleavetheEuropeanUnion.TheywerealsoexpressingafarmoreprofoundsenseoffrustrationaboutaspectsoflifeinBritainandthewayinwhichpoliticsandpoliticianshavefailedtorespondtotheirconcerns.Somevotedforthefirsttimeinmorethan30years.Someforthefirsttimeever.Andtheywerein
5、spiredtodosobecausetheysawachancetorejectthepoliticsof'businessasusual'andtodemandreal,profoundchange.Fedupwithbeingignoredortoldthattheirprioritiesweresomehowinvalid,basedonignoranceandmisunderstanding,orevenonoccasionthattheyweresimplywrongtovoicetheconcernsthatt
6、heydid,theytooktheiropportunitytosendaveryclearmessage:theywillnotbeignoredanymore.Theywanttotakebackcontrolofthethingsthatmatterintheirlives.Theywantagovernmentthatlistens,understandsandisontheirside.Theywantchange.Andthisgovernmentisgoingtodeliverit.Everythingwed
7、owillbedriven,notbytheinterestsoftheprivilegedfew.Notbythosewiththeloudestvoices,thespecialinterests,thegreatestwealthortheaccesstoinfluence.Thisgovernment'sprioritiesarethoseofordinary,workingclasspeople.Peopleforwhomlifesometimescanbeastruggle,butwhogetonwiththin
