2、heirneedsandwants.Basedonmathematicsandpsychology,itwasdevelopedbyThomasL.Saatyinthe1970sandhasbeenextensivelystudiedandrefinedsincethen.TheAHPprovidesacomprehensiveandrationalframeworkforstructuringaproblem,forrepresentingandquantifyingitselements,forrelatingthoseelements
3、tooverallgoals,andforevaluatingalternativesolutions.Itisusedthroughouttheworldinawidevarietyofdecisionsituations,infieldssuchasgovernment,business,industry,healthcare,andeducation.Severalfirmssupplycomputersoftwaretoassistinusingtheprocess.UsersoftheAHPfirstdecomposetheird
4、ecisionproblemintoahierarchyofmoreeasilycomprehendedsub-problems,eachofwhichcanbeanalyzedindependently.Theelementsofthehierarchycanrelatetoanyaspectofthedecisionproblem—tangibleorintangible,carefullymeasuredorroughlyestimated,well-orpoorly-understood—anythingatallthatappli
5、estothedecisionathand.Oncethehierarchyisbuilt,thedecisionmakerssystematicallyevaluateitsvariouselements,comparingthemtooneanotherinpairs.Inmakingthecomparisons,thedecisionmakerscanuseconcretedataabouttheelements,ortheycanusetheirjudgmentsabouttheelements'relativemeaningand
6、importance.ItistheessenceoftheAHPthathumanjudgments,andnotjusttheunderlyinginformation,canbeusedinperformingtheevaluations.TheAHPconvertstheseevaluationstonumericalvaluesthatcanbeprocessedandcomparedovertheentirerangeoftheproblem.Anumericalweightorpriorityisderivedforeache
