2、lebratetheunitythatkeepsusfree. Eachmomentinhistoryisafleetingtime,preciousandunique.Butsomestandoutasmomentsofbeginning,inwhichcoursesaresetthatshapedecadesorcenturies. Thiscanbesuchamoment. Forcesnowareconvergingthatmakepossible,forthefirsttime,thehopethatmanyofman'sdeepestaspirationscana
3、tlastberealized.Thespiralingpaceofchangeallowsustocontemplate,withinourownlifetime,advancesthatoncewouldhavetakencenturies. Inthrowingwidethehorizonsofspace,wehavediscoverednewhorizonsonearth. Forthefirsttime,becausethepeopleoftheworldwantpeace,andtheleadersoftheworldareafraidofwar,thetimesa
4、reonthesideofpeace. EightyearsfromnowAmericawillcelebrateits200thanniversaryasanation.Withinthelifetimeofmostpeoplenowliving,mankindwillcelebratethatgreatnewyearwhichcomesonlyonceinathousandyears--thebeginningofthethirdmillennium. Whatkindofnationwewillbe,whatkindofworldwewilllivein,whetherw
5、eshapethefutureintheimageofourhopes,isourstodeterminebyouractionsandourchoices. Thegreatesthonorhistorycanbestowisthetitleofpeacemaker.ThishonornowbeckonsAmerica--thechancetohelpleadtheworldatlastoutofthevalleyofturmoil,andontothathighgroundofpeacethatmanhasdreamedofsincethedawnofcivilization
