3、technologiesareconstantlybeingdevelopedtocomplementcurrentpracticesincreatinggreenerstructures,thecommonobjectiveisthatgreenbuildingsaredesignedtoreducetheoverallimpactofthebuiltenvironmentonhumanhealthandthenaturalenvironmentby:·Efficientlyusingenergy,water,ando
4、therresources·Protectingoccupanthealthandimprovingemployeeproductivity·Reducingwaste,pollutionand environmentaldegradationAsimilarconceptis naturalbuilding,whichisusuallyonasmallerscaleandtendstofocusontheuseof naturalmaterials thatareavailablelocally. Otherrelat
5、edtopicsinclude sustainabledesign andgreenarchitecture.Sustainabilitymaybedefinedasmeetingtheneedsofpresentgenerationswithoutcompromisingtheabilityoffuturegenerationstomeettheirneeds. Althoughsomegreenbuildingprogramsdon'taddresstheissueoftheretrofittingexistingh
6、omes,othersdo.Greenconstructionprinciplescaneasilybeappliedtoretrofitworkaswellasnewconstruction.A2009reportbytheU.S.GeneralServicesAdministrationfound12sustainablydesignedbuildingscostlesstooperateandhaveexcellentenergyperformance.Inaddition,occupantsweremoresat
