3、movements,partyandunionemployeesandofficials,politicalanalysts,andacademicexpertsinbothcountries.ItwasnecessaryforboththeANCandSolidaritytoenterpoliticsastheywerethedominantoppositiontothepastregimesandbothtransitionsreliedonthesemovementstocreateorderandunity.TheANCpartyhasbeensign

4、ificantlyshapedbyitsliberationmovementpast,andinseveralwaysthishistoryhaslimitedtheparty’saccountability.Despiteitselectoraladvantage,theANChasnotliveduptopublicexpectationsduringitstimeinoffice.ThepoliticalpartiesthatcameoutofSolidaritywereshortlivedandpreventedtheunionfrompromotin
