4、ddressed,andthelike.Anyhowitisheldinthestudythatcognitivepragmaticsfocusesonthementalprocessingofinformationforcommunicativepurposesandontheinterlocutors‘abilitiesintermsofwhichtheycreateandunderstandmeaningsbeyondthewordandsentencelevels.Inthepresentstudyitsattentionhasbeenconcen
5、trateduponthefollowingaspects,whichareconsideredessentialincognitivepragmatics:thecognitivebasisofpragmatics,pragmaticmodularity,understandingandinference,andtheinterrelatednessbetweencognitiveandsocialfactors.Firstly,ittracesthecognitivebasisbacktothesemioticstudyinthe1930sfollow
6、ingtheevolutionofpragmatics,sincethecognitive-pragmaticperspectiveoriginatesinthephilosophyoflanguage(Marmaridou2000).Andtherelationshipbetweenpragmaticsandsomecognitivedisciplinesisexploredsoastoaccountforthefactthatitisofnecessitytodopragmaticsfromthecognitiveperspective,andbylo
7、okingintotheessenceoftheeffectsofsigns,effectsofspeechacts,andcognitiveeffects,wecanfindsomecongruityamongthem.Thefocusisthenputonthediscussionofmodularityandpragmaticmodule.ThenotionofmodulehasbeeninfluentiallyexplicatedinFodor(1983),inwhichinputsystemsareclaimedtobemodularsincet
