2、,andcontroltheopemtionofamanufacturingplant.AnappreciationofthescopeofCAD/CAMcanbeobtainedbyconsideringthestagesthatmustbecompletedinthedesignandmanufactureofaproduct,asillustmtedbytheproductcycleshowninFig.5.8.Theinnerloopofthisfigurein~ludesthevariousstepsintheproductcycle

3、andtheouterloopshowssomeofthefunctionsofCAD/CAMsuperimposedontheproductcycle.Basedonmarketandcustomerrequirements,aproductisconceived,whichmaywellbeamodificationofpreviousproducts.Thisproductisthendesignedindetail,includinganyrequireddesignanalysis,anddrawingsandpartslistsare

4、prepared.Subsequently,thevariouscomponentsandassembliesareplannedforproduction,whichinvolvestheselectionofsequencesofprocessesandmachinetoolsandtheestimationofcycletimes,togetherwiththedeterminationofprocessparameters,suchasfeedsandspeedsCJJ.Whentheproductisinproduction,sched

5、ulingandcontrolofmanufacturetakeplace,andtheorderandtimingofeachmanufacturingstepforeachcomponentandassemblyisdetemnnedtomeetanoverallmanufacturingschedule.Theactualmanufacturingandcontrolofproductqualitythentakesplaceaccordingtothescheduleandthefinalproductsaredeliveredtothe

6、customers.Computer-basedprocedureshavebeenorarebeingdevelopedtofacilitateeachofthesestagesintheproductcycle,andtheseareshownintheouterloopofFig.5.8.Computer-aideddesignanddraftingtechniqueshavebeendeveloped.Theseallowageometricmodeloftheproductanditscomponentstobecreatedinthec

7、omputer.ThismodelcantlIenbeanalyzedusingspecializedsoftwarepackages,suchasthoseforfiniteelementstressanalysis,mechanismsdesign,andsoon.Subsequently,dmwingsandpartslistscanbeproducedwithcomputer-aideddraftingsoftwareandplotters.Computer-aidedprocess-planningsystems,includingth
