1、Chapter9Materials9-1GeneralThequalityofmaterialsusedontheprojectwillbeevaluatedandacceptedinvariousways,whetherbytestingofsamples,visualinspection,orcertificationofcompliance.Thischapterdetailsthemannerinwhichthesematerialscanbeaccepted.RequirementsformaterialsaredescribedinStandardSpe

2、cificationsforRoad,Bridge,andMunicipalConstructionM 41-10Section1-06andDivision9.TheStateMaterialsEngineerisresponsibleforthestate’smaterialsapprovalandacceptanceprogram,andtheQualityAssuranceProgram.Anychangesordeviationstotheapprovaloracceptanceofmaterials,ortheQualityAssuranceProgra

3、mbeyondwhatisallowedinthischapterwillrequireapprovalfromtheStateMaterialsEngineerortheAssistantStateMaterialsEngineer.ItistheProjectEngineer’sresponsibilitytoacceptmaterialsinaccordancewiththischapter.Formaterialsthatdonotmeetspecificationrequirements,theProjectEngineershallcontacttheS

4、tateConstructionOfficewhichwillcoordinatewiththeStateMaterialsLaboratorytodeterminetheappropriateaction.9-1.1PEAuthorityforMaterialsApprovalandAcceptanceThischaptercoverstheProjectEngineer’sauthoritytoapproveandmodifytheacceptanceofcertainmaterialswhilemaintainingnormalapprovalandaccep

5、tancebytheStateMaterialsLaboratoryandRegion.Theuseoftheseprocessesmentionedwithinthissectionaretobeimplementedpriortoworkbeingperformedandnottoretroactivelyjustifydeficienciesdiscoveredafterthecompletionofwork,withtheexceptionthatReducingFrequencyofTestingisimplementedduringthework.Iti

6、srecommendedthattheProjectEngineerofficereviewtheoriginalRecordofMaterialstodetermineifitemscanbemodifiedwithintheguidelinesofthissection.TheRecordofMaterialshouldbeactivelymaintainedperSection9-1.2C.MaterialsacceptedinaccordancewiththeseoptionsshallbeidentifiedintheProjectEngineer’spr
