2、her.Becauseofyourwork,allacrossAfricatherearechildrenwhoarenolongerstarving,motherswhoarenolongerdyingoftreatablediseases,fatherswhoareagainprovidingfortheirfamilies.Andbecauseofallofyou,somanypeoplearenowblessedwithhope.We’vegotmembersofCongresswhohavedonesomuchforthiscausewhoar
3、eheretoday,andwewanttothankthem.LetmealsothankPresidentBushforjoiningusfromTanzaniaandforhisboldleadershiponthisissue.IbelievethathistorywillrecordthePresident’sEmergencyPlanforAIDSReliefasoneofhisgreatestlegacies.Andthatprogram--moreambitiousthaneventheleadingadvocatesthoughtwas
4、possibleatthetime--hassavedthousandsandthousandsandthousandsoflives,andspurredinternationalaction,andlaidthefoundationforacomprehensiveglobalplanthatwillimpactthelivesofmillions.Andweareproudthatwehavetheopportunitytocarrythatworkforward.Todayisaremarkableday.Today,wecometogether
5、asaglobalcommunity,acrosscontinents,acrossfaithsandcultures,torenewourcommitmenttoendingtheAIDSpandemiconceandforall.Now,ifyougobackandyoulookatthethemesofpastWorldAIDSDays,ifyoureadthemoneafteranother,you’llseethestoryofhowthehumanracehasconfrontedoneofthemostdevastatingpandemic
6、sinourhistory.You’llseethatinthoseearlyyears--whenwestartedlosinggoodmenandwomentoadiseasethatnoonetrulyunderstood--itwasaboutringingthealarm,callingforglobalaction,provingthatthisdeadlydiseasewasnotisolatedtooneareaoronegroupofpeople.Andthat’spartofwhatmakestodaysoremarkable,bec
7、ausebackinthoseearlyyears,fewcouldhaveimaginedthisday--thatwewouldbelookingaheadto“TheBeginningoftheEnd,”markingaWorldAIDSDaythathasgonefromthatearlybeginningwhenpeoplewerestilluncertaintonowatheme,“GettingtoZero.”Fewcouldhaveimaginedthatwe’dbetalkingabouttherealpossibilityofanAI
