3、,andwherehertwoeldersistersdied.In1835-1838sheworkedasaschoolteacher,andlaterasgoverness.In1842shewentwithhersisterEmilytostudylanguagesataschoolinBrussels,whereduring1843shewasemployedasateacher.InthenextyearshewasbackatHaworth,andin1846appearedavolumeofverseentitledpoemsbyCurer,Ellis,andActionB
4、ell,thepseudonymsofCharlotte,Emily,andAnnerespectively.TheProfessor,Charlotte’sfirstnovel,wasrejectedbydifferentpublishers,anditwasnotpublishedtillafterherdeath.Shewenttowriteanothernovel,JaneEyre,whichwaspublishedin1847andachievedimmediatesuccess.ThegreatestEnglishrealistofthetimewasCharlesDicke
5、ns.Withstrikingforceandtruthfulness,hecreatespicturesofbourgeoiscivilization,describingthemiseryandsufferingsofthecommonpeople. ThemethodofcriticalrealismwasfurtheradoptedbysuchwritersasCharlotteandEmilyBronte,andElizabethGaskell.InwritingJaneEyre,CharlotteBrontechieflyresortstotherealisticapproa
