6、hosheorheclaimstobe.Itshouldnotbeconfusedwithspeechrecognition,anon-biometrictechnologyusedforidentifyingwhatapersonissaying.Speechrecognitionproductsarenotdesignedtodeterminewhoisspeaking.Speakerverificationbeginswithaclaimofidentity(seeFigureA1).Usually,theclaimentailsman

7、ualentryofapersonalidentificationnumber(PIN),butagrowingnumberofproductsallowspokenentryofthePINandusespeechrecognitiontoidentifythenumericcode.SomeapplicationsreplacemanualorspokenPINentrywithbankcards,smartcards,orthenumberofthetelephonebeingused.PINSarealsoeliminatedwhen
