2、dtopicandpeoplepaymoreandmoreattentiontotheculturalstudiesandinterculturalcommunicationinrecentyears.Therefore,cultureteachingisfeasibleintheforeignlanguageclassroom.ItcanhelpEnglishlearnersraisetheculturalawarenessanddevelopthecommunicativecompetence.Manyresearchersandeducatorsworld

3、widewrotearticlestopresenttheirviewsontheimportanceofcultureteachingandtheprinciplesandmethodstocarryoutcultureteaching.MostofEnglishteachershavealreadyrecognizedtheimpossibilityofanEnglishacquisitionwithouttherelevantculturalunderstanding.Bothscholarsandpractitionershavereachedacons

4、ensusthattheinclusionofculturalteachinginEnglishclassroomshouldbeamust.D.hymes,thewell-knownAmericansociolinguist,heldthatcommunicativecompetenceshouldincludenotonlylinguisticcompetence,butalsothefullunderstandingandagoodcommandofthesocioculturalelementscloselyrelatedtothelanguageuse

5、.Inthecurrentunderstandingoftheplaceofcultureinsecondandforeignlanguagepedagogy,theworkofMichaelByramhasplayedaprominentrole.Inthelate1980s,Byramobservedthatculturerepresents“hidden”curriculuminsecondandforeignlanguageteaching.Heindicatedthatlanguageteachingcanrarelytakeplacewithouti

6、mplicitlyteachingthecultureofitsspeakersbecauselanguageinvariablyreferstotheirknowledgeandperceptionsoftheworld,theconceptsofcultureandculturelearning.Byramalsopointedoutthatcommunicativecompetenceinvolves“appropriatelanguageusewhich,inpartatleast,isculturespecific”(Byram61).Inpracti

7、ce,theimportanceofteachingforeignculturehasbeenrecognizedawealthofsuggestionsonclassroomtreatmentofculturalaspectshasbeenofferedbyAllenandValette.Besides,AmericanappliedlinguistG.Robinsonputforwardanimportantconceptthatthroughlanguageandculturalteachinglearnerswouldgain“culturalversa
