2、n.Theresultsindicatethatadolescents'gendercorrelateswiththeidoltypetheychoosetoadorewhentheidolismale.Thisstudysummarizes"exterior,""interior,""wealth,"and"athlete"asfourunderlyingidoltraitsattractingadolescents.Varioustypesofidolsareconsideredtobesignificantlydifferentonthesefour
3、traits.Theimpactsofthefourtraitsonadolescents'worshiplevelsarenonsymmetrical.Whilethetraitsofexteriorandathleteareworshipfacilitators,thetraitofwealthisaprohibitor.Bycontrast,thetraitofinteriorisneutralandhasnoeffectonworshiplevels.Furthermore,adolescentsareinvolvedinhigherlevelso
4、fworshipwhentheidolisamediastaroristheoppositegenderoftheadolescent.Generally,adolescents'worshiplevelsareheightenedbytheillusionofaperfectidol,indicatingnonrationalworshipbehaviors.Implicationsregardingtheassociationbetweenadolescents'cognitiveabilitiesandidols'traitsarediscussed
5、forfutureresearch.Thephenomenonofidolizationisacharacteristicofadolescence.Anidolissomeonewhosetalents,achievements,status,orphysicalappearanceareespeciallyrecognizedandappreciatedbyhisorherfans.Sinceobjectsofidolizationcomefromvariousdomainsoflife,sportchampions,movieactors/actre
6、sses,televisionpersonalities,popstars,andpoliticalorreligiousleaderscanallbeidolizedfigures(Raviv,Bar-tal,Raviv,&Ben-Horn,1996).Idolizationcantakemanydifferentforms.FromextremecasesofsuicidesandskippinglessonstocatchaglimpseoftheiridolstolisteningtoCDscasuallyeverynowandthen,adole
7、scentsshowtheirdevotionandadmirationoftheiridolsinvariousdifferentways(McCutcheon,Lange,&Houran,2002).Psychologistsbelievethatduringadolescents'transitiontoadulthoodtheyformstrongattachmentstofiguresaroundthemastheysearchfortheirownidentity(Greene&Adams-Price,1990;Ravivetal.,1996;
