3、esistedevilandhelpedbringdownanempire,IproudlyaccepttheVictimsofCommunismMemorialonbehalfoftheAmericanpeople.(Applause.) The20thcenturywillberememberedasthedeadliestcenturyinhumanhistory.Andtherecordofthisbrutaleraiscommemoratedinmemorialsacrossthiscity.Yet,untilnow
4、,ourNation'sCapitalhadnomonumenttothevictimsofimperialCommunism,anideologythattookthelivesofanestimated100millioninnocentmen,womenandchildren.Soit'sfittingthatwegathertorememberthosewhoperishedatCommunism'shands,anddedicatethismemorialthatwillenshrinetheirsufferi
5、ngandsacrificeintheconscienceoftheworld. Buildingthismemorialtookmorethanadecadeofeffort,anditspresenceinourcapitalisatestamenttothepassionanddeterminationoftwodistinguishedAmericans:LevDobriansky,whosedaughterPaulaishere--(applause)--giveyourdadourbest.AndDr.LeeEdw

7、ecisecountisimpossible.Accordingtothebestscholarlyestimate,CommunismtookthelivesoftensofmillionsofpeopleinChinaandtheSovietUnion,andmillionsmoreinNorthKorea,Cambodia,Africa,Afghanistan,Vietnam,EasternEurope,andotherpartsoftheglobe. Behindthesenumbersarehumanstorieso
