2、chemebyusingsoftthresholdingandhardthresholding.Thisapproachappearstobeagoodchoiceforanumberofapplications.Thisisbecauseawavelettransformcancompacttheenergyoftheimagetoonlyasmallnumberoflargecoefficientsandthemajorityofthewaveletcoeficientsareverysmallsothattheycanb
3、esettozero.Thethresholdingofthewaveletcoeficientscanbedoneatonlythedetailwaveletdecompositionsubbands.Wekeepafewlowfrequencywaveletsubbandsuntouchedsothattheyarenotthresholded.ItiswellknownthatDonoho'smethodofferstheadvantagesofsmoothnessandadaptation.However,asCoif
4、manandDonohopointedout,thisalgorithmexhibitsvisualartifacts:Gibbsphenomenaintheneighbourhoodofdiscontinuities.Therefore,theyproposeinatranslationinvariant(TI)denoisingschemetosuppresssuchartifactsbyaveragingoverthedenoisedsignalsofallcircularshifts.Theexperimentalre
5、sultsinconfirmthatsingleTIwaveletdenoisingperformsbetterthanthenon-TIcase.BuiandChenextendedthisTIschemetothemultiwaveletcaseandtheyfoundthatTImultiwaveletdenoisinggavebetterresultsthanTIsinglewaveletdenoising.CaiandSilvermanproposedathresholdingschemebytakingthenei
6、ghbourcoeficientsintoaccountTheirexperimentalresultsshowedapparentadvantagesoverthetraditionalterm-by-termwaveletdenoising.ChenandBuiextendedthisneighbouringwaveletthresholdingideatothemultiwaveletcase.Theyclaimedthatneighbourmultiwaveletdenoisingoutperformsneighbou
